Yukorin points the way with 3 million copies of travel handbook sold




TOKYO — Celebrity Yuko Ogura, 25, attended a commemorative event this week celebrating sales of three million copies of the travel book series “Tabi no Sashi Kaiwacho” (Travel Handbook of Finger Pointing) at Tokyo’s Marunouchi Oazo.

The popular series allows travelers to communicate overseas simply by pointing at illustrations and words in the book, and currently covers 78 countries. At the event, a limited edition “Korin Seigo Version” (Korin Star Language Verison) was unveiled, where all words in the edition contained the suffix “rinko” or “pu.” Ogura, popularly known as Yukorin, and “talent” “Miracle Hikaru,” 29, carried out a “conversation” in the language, much to the amusement of the crowd. “These books are perfect for traveling abroad. Everyone here should give it a tryrinko,” Ogura said.
